Who we are

The National School of Government is the government’s learning and development organisation. Our challenge is to raise the bar for better value public services. We help transform performance – for individuals, teams and organisations - through high quality learning.

The National School’s ‘insider’ status – we’ve been a part of government for forty years - gives us an understanding of the public sector that’s difficult to get elsewhere. We work primarily within the Civil Service – but also across government and the wider public sector - from ministers and top civil servants…to those developing policy … and those delivering it on the front-line.

Being close to such a range of clients keeps us alive to the issues that public servants wrestle with every day. Working with Permanent Secretaries on the Civil Service Capability Board (formerly the Civil Service Learning and Skills Board), who oversee what we do, ensures we are also in tune with the broad challenges facing government.

Last year over 25,000 public servants attended our programmes and events – and our e-learning reached over a quarter of a million people.
