What are Foundation degrees?

  • Foundation degrees are work based degrees equivalent to two years of an honours degree. They combine academic and work-based learning

  • Designed in partnership with organisations, they equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to improve your job performance

  • Many people study whilst they are employed - earn while you learn

  • Foundation degrees are awarded by universities and require equivalent standards of academic attainment as the second year of an honours degree

  • A full-time course will usually take two years to complete, a part-time course takes longer

  • You don't necessarily need traditional academic qualifications to gain entry to a course as your workplace experience is recognised

  • Many courses have flexible teaching arrangements involving part-time or evening attendance at college, distance learning or learning via the internet

  • Foundation degrees are flexible. They are designed and delivered in a range of ways to minimise workplace disruption and suit your lifestyle
