The theme of the 2010 conference is Leadership Legacy: No Time Like the Present. Set against a backdrop of global events, this positive action conference has been designed for women in public service management and leadership roles who would like to reflect on their current leadership style, to clarify what they would like their leadership legacy to be and to set individual goals in support of this.

The conference aims to:

  • Enable delegates to learn about the different leadership styles adopted by women who are already paving the way to the future.
  • Increase delegates' understanding of ethics, economics and the environment as the foundations of a sustainable society.
  • Support delegates to 'think big' and work towards aspirational leadership goals.
  • Offer a unique networking opportunity to bring together women from UK and international public service roles.

There will also be a range of workshops focusing on topical and survey driven issues such as: legacies from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games; how women leaders are working with partner governments in post-conflict states; the concept of 'tempered radicalism'; the World Bank's action plan to improve women's economic opportunities; a key legacy project in Ethiopia, and understanding the power of resources and the sharing of global wealth.

The National School's Women's Leadership Director, Samantha Manning explained:

"Critical times demand effective leadership and women need to be at the table as leaders making the decisions. A sustainable society is crucial. Inspirational women who are creating legacies now in areas such as ethics, economics and the environment will be speaking at the conference. They can highlight some of the leadership tools we need to build a better world for future generations.

Our conference will bring together women from across the globe - both as contributors and delegates - to share stories and knowledge. Their messages will help delegates think hard about their own leadership approach and to consider what more they would like to contribute - to others, to their organisations, to the world - through their leadership talents."
