What We Do - Talent Management

An ageing population, deferred parenthood, increased diversity and different expectations giving way to faster staff turnover among young graduates all contribute to the famously coined phrase "war for talent". Talent management has many different approaches and each has its devotees. But, whatever the approach in your workplace, few would disagree that it's about having the right people in the right job and a supply pipeline for future leaders and managers.

With the public sector committed to the transformation of public service delivery, a talented, motivated and focussed workforce is crucial, and an effective strategy to identify, attract, develop, retain and deploy talent is key to successful organisational performance.

Where we can help you

The National School has expertise in the areas of talent management, succession planning and workforce development that will help you design, implement and manage an effective talent strategy to improve your strategic performance and organisational effectiveness. Our work in succession planning can help prepare organisations now to minimise the challenges later and align workforce development to their business objectives.

What do you find difficult?

We can work with you to:

  • give clarity to your approach as to "who" you choose to be developed for "talent"
  • help you build a talent strategy that provides clear direction and success criteria
  • help you define your processes for identifying and assessing talent in your organisation
  • help you define those jobs that are critical to the day-to-day running of your organisation for which seamless replacement is a crucial factor
  • maintain stability through careful succession planning

Our approach

Our starting point is to gauge where you are now and where you want to be in terms of your organisation's approach to talent management and its alignment with business objectives. This is rapidly followed by pragmatic recommendations on what you have to do to get there, benchmarked against best practice in the public sector.

The benefits to your organisation

  • Improved organisational effectiveness and service delivery
  • Stability and smoother transition during turbulent times such as mergers
  • Being able to do more with less
  • Greater employee motivation and engagement
  • Improved ability to deal with change
  • Better budget spending- money spent where you need it
  • Greater staff retention
