This review of literature, published by the Department for Work and Pensions on 2 February 2010, is the first phase of the lone parent obligations (LPO) evaluation. It considers the effect of similar international policy changes that have been undertaken with a view to informing the LPO evaluation, as well as future policy design and implementation.
The report includes a review of recent evidence-based literature and four case studies of comparator countries, selected because each offered aspects of policy and practice relevant to the extension of lone parent work-related requirements in Britain. The countries selected were Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United States, with a specific focus on the state of Oregon and New York City.
