About Policy Hub

'the first port of call for improvements in policy making and delivery'

What is Policy Hub?

Policy Hub is a web-site, developed by the Government Social Research Unit, which aims to improve the way public policy is shaped and delivered.

It provides:

Why was it developed?

The Government's programme to radically improve the management and delivery of public services demands a new approach to policy making that is evidence based, cross cutting and innovative. All policy makers need to embrace this new approach.

Policy Hub is a web resource that supports and guides you through this new approach and aims to improve the way public policy is shaped and delivered.

The report of the Better Regulation Task Force (Local Delivery of Central Government - pdf, 190kb) published in July 2002 recommended that Policy Hub should be developed as the key gateway for promoting best practice, guidance and case studies to policy makers.

Harnessing research and evidence

Policy Hub is not aimed solely at policy makers. It provides a platform for promoting the highest standards of research and evaluation.

It show-cases the conclusions of a number of high-profile projects on which Strategy Unit has taken the lead. These include a review of Government policy pilots and a project examining the role of qualitative methods in policy evaluation. A guide to policy evaluation and analysis has also been published, which aims to help 'intelligent customers' and 'intelligent providers' determine what constitutes high quality work in the field on policy evaluation and analysis.
