A new book Replacing the State? launched by the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO), is calling for a PFI-equivalent to enable the voluntary sector to run more public services. In a mixed economy of service provision, the voluntary sector already runs vital public services in health care, education, personal social services and housing etc. These services need stable, long-term funding. The voluntary sector is spending too much time and money renegotiating short-term contracts with the state. A PFI equivalent needs to be found for long-term, 25-year contracts not short term year on year renegotiating.
A summary can be found on the ACEVO
website.
