Impact of alcohol consumption on young people: a systematic review of published reviews

On 29 January 2009, the Department of Health published a report written by the Institute of Health and Society at Newcastle University (Impact of alcohol consumption on young people: a systematic review of published reviews) which assesses published evidence relating to the impact of alcohol consumption on young people.

The study provides a systematic review of the published literature on this subject. It highlights findings on the risk and protective factors that influence alcohol misuse by young people and also the possibly adverse or beneficial consequences associated with alcohol consumption. Finally, the review draws attention to areas where there are gaps or deficiencies in the evidence base which need to be addressed.
