On 16 October 2006, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) published a report (Care providers, care receivers: a longitudinal perspective) which analyses the past and current characteristics of people who provide unpaid care to family and friends. The report begins with an overview of care-giving in England and Wales. It examines the geographical distribution of caregivers by local authority, and maps poor health and deprivation among carers. The report then examines the past and current characteristics of unpaid caregivers of different age groups.
