The Environment Agency's strategy (Managing chemicals for a better environment) published on 22 October 2003, seeks to prioritise and manage risks to human health and the environment, arising from environmental exposure to the thousands of chemicals that are used every day by the public and industry. These include flame-retardants, chlorinated paraffins, plastic additives and perfluorinated chemicals. There are also studies underway on pharmaceuticals, veterinary medicines and pesticides.
