Child well being and child poverty

On 21 April 2009, the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) published a briefing (Child well being and child poverty) based on the findings of a new league table of child wellbeing in European countries in which the UK comes 24th out of 29 countries.

This new league table has been produced by researchers from the University of York. It includes 43 separate indicators, summarised in seven domains of child wellbeing. The Netherlands comes top of the table, followed by Norway and Sweden. In 24th place, the UK is well below countries of similar affluence, with only Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania and Malta doing worse.

The briefing also outlines the policies CPAG advocates to end child poverty and improve child wellbeing in the UK
