A good childhood: searching for values in a competitive age

On 5 February 2009, The Children's Society published a report (A good childhood: searching for values in a competitive age) which seeks to provide a detailed understanding of modern childhood.

The report gathered evidence from over 30,000 people - including more than 20,000 children - taking part in polls, research and focus groups. Evidence collected was far reaching and included contributions from children from all walks of life including those in prison, pupil referral units, early-years settings, as well as refugee children, disabled children and many other marginalised groups.

The report seeks to answer three questions:

Having carefully appraised the assembled findings, the report presents a series of recommendations addressed to parents, teachers, the government, the media and society in general.
