On 7 November 2005, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) announced a consultation to gather information on climate change adaptation activities across the UK, within different agencies and across different sectors. It is now well recognised that climate change is going to have an impact and therefore long-term decisions, such as those on infrastructure, planning and transport, will determine the UK's preparedness for and resilience to future climatic extremes.
Ministers have agreed that a framework for adaptation (National Adaptation Policy Framework) is needed to co-ordinate preparation for climate impacts. The framework will need to be developed with full co-operation and input from across Defra, from other government departments, and from wider stakeholders. Responses should be received by 31 January 2006.
Details can be found on the Defra website.
