Climate change for policymakers

On 16 November 2007, the  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a report (Summary for policymakers of the synthesis report of the IPCC Fourth assessment report) which finds that climate change could have far-reaching and "irreversible" consequences if more action is not taken to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The report says that evidence of climate change is "unequivocal." It says that the trend could lead to "abrupt" changes to the planet, cause human suffering and threaten some species with extinction.

Carbon dioxide emissions, blamed for global warming, are rising faster than they were a decade ago. Despite the dire warnings, the report also contains the message that there are "real and affordable ways to deal with climate change"
