20 mph speed limit to reduce child deaths and injuries by 67%

A report from the Health Development Agency (Prevention and reduction of accidental injury in children and older people), published on 30 October 2003, provides evidence on the best ways to improve the safety of these vulnerable groups, based on a review of research from around the world.

It concludes that a speed limit of 20 mph on residential roads could save approximately 13,000 children from death or injury each year.

The report can be viewed on the Health Development Agency website.
