On 15 November 2004, the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) published a comprehensive strategy (The international strategy for education, skills and children's services) to build stronger links between the UK education system and world partners.
The strategy aims to achieve three key goals:
. equipping children and adults for life in a global society and work in a global economy;
. engaging with our international partners to achieve their education goals and ours;
. maximising the contribution of our education and training sector and university research to overseas trade and inward investment
