On 19 December 2005, the revised version of the Defra avian influenza contingency plan was laid before Parliament.
The Exotic Animal Disease Generic Contingency Plan (Ver. 1.1) includes specific annexes relating to each of the diseases covered; Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Avian Influenza (AI), Newcastle Disease (ND), and Classical Swine Fever (CSF). The avian influenza section of the plan has been updated to reflect recently agreed policies on temporary housing/isolation of poultry from wild birds and the introduction of a short-term national movements ban in the event of a confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian flu in Great Britain.
The contingency plan will be reviewed annually to meet the provisions of the Animal Health Act.
The plan can be viewed on the Defra website (pdf).
