Housing of new immigrants


On 26 November 2007, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) published a report (The housing pathways of new immigrants) which explores the arrival experiences and settlement stories of new immigrants.

The study focuses on the housing experiences of new immigrants and considers the consequences of their arrival for local housing markets and neighbourhoods. Rich insights are gathered through in-depth, qualitative interviews with new immigrants living in Sheffield.

The study explores their:

It finds that, rather than taking much-needed housing from local residents, new immigrants tend to fill voids in the housing stock left behind or rejected by other households.

The report outlines the policy challenges raised by the research.
