On 2 March 2009, the London Assembly’s Transport Committee published a report (Slipping up? Impact of the extreme weather on London transport) which finds that a lack of preparation and co-ordination hindered efforts to keep transport running in London during the heavy snows on 1 and 2 February 2009.
The report suggests that better coordination between the boroughs, Transport for London and the emergency services could have resulted in more effective preparation for - and a faster recovery from - the extreme disruption which occurred.
While the report acknowledges that disruption to the transport network was inevitable given the extreme and unusual weather conditions, it highlights a number of areas that must be improved if London is to satisfactorily cope with a similar situation again.
