On 23 April 2009, the UK government published a report (Investing in a low carbon Britain) which considers the opportunities presented by green manufacturing and the wider carbon economy.
The document cites a number of key sectors which the UK’s natural resources, strong tradition and skills base suggest it has the potential to take a leading global role: carbon capture and storage; offshore wind generation; marine energy; nuclear energy; and low carbon vehicles.
The report sets out a programme of targeted investment to drive progress in these sectors, building on a broader strategy of using carbon pricing; support for key technologies; and attempts to influence the behaviour of businesses and individuals in order to help the UK make the transition to a low carbon economy.
