Local government's statutory responsibility for research

Councils should use research to deliver improvement agenda

A report published on 2 October 2003 by the Local Authorities Research + Intelligence Association (LARIA) and the Local Government Association (Statutory requirements for research: a review of responsibilities for English & Welsh local government) details local government's statutory responsibility for undertaking research.

Based on analysis of approximately 150 Acts of Parliament, the report provides a comprehensive check-list of legislative requirements for research, ranging across all local government services.
