Developments and Trends in Mental Health Policy

On 1 November 2004, the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr) published a report (Developments and trends in mental health policy) which aims to show the impact on the development of mental health services of the changes introduced by Government policy and of broader social trends. The report also highlights some contrasting developments and tensions within policy.

Mental health is one of Government's top three priorities for the health service and has seen sustained policy activism and extra resources. But the report claims that, despite both money and activity, there is a widespread sense of unease that improvements are not happening fast enough and not making a real difference to the lives of service users.
