A new Sure Start Unit and programme, which will bring together early education, childcare and health and family support, was launched on 11 December 2003 by Secretary of State for Education and Skills Charles Clarke and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Andrew Smith at the National Sure Start conference at the Queen Elizabeth 11 conference centre.
The new Unit will co-ordinate a joined up approach to childcare, early years education and family and health support.
