The debate about the ageing society tends to be negative, focusing on the potential under provision of welfare and care services.
A report published by the Demos think tank (Why baby boomers won't be pensioned off) on 4 September 2003, examines the values and attitudes of the baby boomer generation ('The new old') and concludes that these may lead to more positive models of retirement.
The research draws on the initial findings of a joint project between Demos and Age Concern. This project will contribute to the development of a long term strategy for an ageing society.
The report can be viewed on the Demos website.
