How UK healthcare compares to Europe

On 3 January 2005, the centre right think tank, the Bow Group, published a policy brief (The quality of UK healthcare: comparison to Europe). It looks at mortality rates and concludes that UK is not matching the best European standards in heart disease, respiratory disease and cancer.

The brief also examines survival rates and says that UK is bottom of the league for cancer survival rates, once the disease has been diagnosed.

Under funding and activity, the brief says that the 25% real increase in health spending in the first 5 years of the present administration, resulted only in a 16% increase in resources and staff.
