Proposals to improve local quality of life

On 23 June 2004, the Audit Commission published a report (People, places and prosperity) which finds that the drive to improve local well-being is hampered by the many central government initiatives and the complex funding that underpins them. This results in excessive administrative costs and uncertainty as to the long-term sustainability of projects.

The report proposes a new local delivery framework for communities, local leaders and policy-makers. These suggestions would enable a more efficient approach to the administration of funds that come down from central government to the local level.
