On 19 March 2007, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) published a report (Voices of people experiencing poverty in Scotland: everyone matters? ) which presents the outcome of focus group work with adults and children in Scotland with experience of poverty. Whilst there are plenty of statistics on poverty they cannot give a full picture of what day-to-day life is like for people experiencing poverty and how these experiences change over time. The focus group participants identify the issues that affect them including the impact of low income, the lack of access to basic financial services and access to services, including further education, healthcare and advice services. The participants also discuss how the areas they live in can be improved and how they’d like to be consulted about those improvements.
