A report published on 19 March 2010 by the National Cancer Equality Initiative (NCEI) recognises that, as with many health conditions, there are a range of discernible inequalities in the outcomes and experiences of cancer patients. It explains that these can occur at every stage of the patient pathway in relation to awareness, incidence, access to treatment and care, patient experience, survival and mortality.
This report summarises progress made by NCEI to date and sets out the next steps for tackling inequalities in the treatment of cancer and the promotion of greater equality. Similarly, it identifies activities to be taken forward nationally and those to be addressed locally.
