How the world’s best-performing school systems come out on top

On 28 February 2008, McKinsey and Company published a report (How the world’s best-performing school systems come out on top) which seeks to understand why the world’s top performing schools perform so much better than most others and why some educational reforms succeed when many others fail.

The report provides an analysis of the achievements of the best-performing schools as defined by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Programme for International Student Assessment; a survey of the current literature; and interviews with more than one hundred experts, policymakers and practitioners.
