On 22 November 2005, the Home Office (HO) published a Strategy document (Science and Innovation Strategy 2005-08) which sets out the way in which the Government will reduce crime and the fear of crime, tackle terrorism and manage UK borders effectively through science and innovation, including social, physical and biological sciences
Science and innovation are central to the development of HO policies and the delivery of HO objectives. They lie at the heart of HO's commitment to evidence-based policy. Science, engineering, technology and innovation also provide the means to deliver these policies.
This document sets out, in broad terms, HO priorities, and the processes by which HO will work to ensure they access, commission or conduct the science needed to inform policy development and delivery. It is not a comprehensive research plan as more detailed information is contained in separate business plans.
The document can be viewed on the HO website.
