Stakeholder relationship research

On 4 August 2009, the Department for Health (DH) published a report which provides an analysis of stakeholder management models and develops a strategic framework for future departmental engagements.

The report seeks to examine perceptions of the department’s engagement and liaison mechanisms; assess the extent to which stakeholders think DH understands its aims and objectives; and explore whether or not stakeholders view the department as a good place to do business with.

It puts forward a number of proposals which include recommendations that the department should:

• Introduce a more assertive, coherent and explicit relationship management system.
• Improve the management of gaps and overlaps, ensuring that silo working is minimised, a greater consistency of approach is adopted and good practice widely disseminated.
• Undertake a broad evaluation of its role translating policy into implementation.
