Supporting ambition in our young people

A report published on 1 April 2010 by the Local Government Association (LGA) welcomes the return to local councils of responsibility for commissioning education and training for 16 to 19-year-olds, claiming it represents an exciting opportunity to join up the delivery of local public services to young people and drive forward improvements.

The report aims to show how councils will use this transfer of power (which commenced on 1 April 2010) and funding from the national level to make sure that all young people in their area are given the opportunity to pursue their ambitions and fulfil their potential.

Importantly, it also gives practical examples of what councils up and down the country are already doing to make this a reality.
