On 27 November 2008, the Department for Transport (DfT) published a report (Transport statistics Great Britain) which seeks to provide an accurate, comprehensive and meaningful picture of transport use in Great Britain.
As well as providing comparisons of different modes of transport, the report details a wide range of transport types including aviation; freight; maritime; road and traffic; and public transport.
It also records an assortment of statistics relating to energy and the environment as well as looking at transport accidents and casualties.
