New approaches to education for circus, fairground and gypsy children

On 3 November 2004 the Nuffield Foundation published a report (Traveller Education: Changing times, changing technologies) on the outcome of the E-Learning and Mobility project (E-LAMP), sponsored by the Nuffield Foundation and coordinated by the National Association of the Teachers of Travellers. E-LAMP set out to explore the potential of developments in ICT to enhance learning provision for Traveller children.

The study looked at the role of LEA-based Traveller Education Support Services and schools in supporting the many circus, fairground and gypsy children who miss out on schooling opportunities during their travelling seasons. It also examining e-learning developments for other children in out-of-school situations, such as those with medical needs and excluded pupils.

A summary and details of the report can be viewed on the Sheffield University website.
