A report released on 23 October 2003 by the House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee (Vets and veterinary services,- HC 703, Session 2002-2003) warns of a shortage of vets with large animal experience. Farming economics are diminishing use of veterinary services, although government strategies appear to require a greater on farm presence of veterinary surgeons. The report calls on DEFRA to address the supply of veterinary surgeons.
