On 3 December 2008, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) published a report (World migration 2008: managing labour mobility in the evolving global economy) which highlights the difficulties encountered when seeking to formulate workable approaches to the management of international migration.
The report aims to identify policies that might contribute to the development of far-reaching and coherent strategies to match demand for migrant workers with supply more effectively and in safe, humane and orderly ways. It also explores the nature and magnitude of the need for such strategies through the study and analysis of a wide range of contemporary migratory patterns linked to economic purposes.
