Young people - response to DfES consultation

On 24 November 2005, the department for Education and Skills (DfES) announced the initial findings from a consultation on the Youth Green Paper – Youth Matters which ended on 4 November.

Just under 20,000 responses - one of the largest ever responses to a government consultation - were received from young people. Over 500 young people took part in nationally organised events. About 1,000 organisations, professionals and parents responded to the consultation.
The initial trends show that young people want more opportunities for activities and getting involved in their communities; and that many really like the idea of helping in decision making on council spending on provision and activities for young people.

The DfES response will be available in early 2006.
