Developing Deliverable Policy

Policy professionals of all types including those on Fast Stream and other development programmes within the first 6-18 months of starting to work on policy issues.

objectives

On completion you should have developed your understanding of the environment within which policies are made and delivered and you will have been introduced to a range of policy-making tools. You will be better able to:

  • understand the nature of policy-making; principles of high quality policy work and the context for the development and delivery of policies
  • use approaches and techniques for structuring and analysing policy issues
  • define desired policy outcomes and plan for evaluation
  • generate, select and analyse options
  • identify potential risks, impacts and consequences and propose strategies for dealing with them
  • draw on a 'toolkit' of approaches and techniques, such as Impact Assessments, for developing policies that can be delivered.

    This course will help participants increase their awareness of the environment within which policies are made and delivered and offer them a range of practical approaches and techniques for better policy-making. It will enable them to return to their organisations better equipped to contribute more confidently to developing deliverable policies.
